Friday 9th August 2024 – Alert notice from Neighbourhood Watch.

I am sure you are all aware of a number of incidents across the country of violent disorder in the last week and many of you may well have concerns, in case such an incident might occur in our area.

In Neighbourhood Watch we receive prompt information about such matters from Sussex Police, and thought it would be useful to pass on the key points from their recent statement, released by Assistant Chief Constable (ACC) Paul Court, who states that “racist, criminal behaviour will not be tolerated and we are working hard to keep you safe and ensure anyone involved in criminal disorder is held to account”.

Protecting the public is the priority for Sussex Police who are mobilised and fully prepared to respond swiftly and effectively to any incidents.

They have robust, well-rehearsed plans to allow them to respond to any local incidents.

Please ignore any information circulating online about potential activity across Sussex, that is not from Sussex Police.

The Police constantly reviews information to identify any emerging concerns, and to keep our local community updated with known and established facts.

The Police urge the public to challenge what they see online, to report where appropriate and state the source of their information.

The Police will publish updates in local news or Sussex Police social media channels.

ACC Court also says “Our neighbourhood officers are out and about, actively engaging with our local communities - please do speak to them directly if you have any concerns”.

What we can all do - remain vigilant and  report any suspicious activity or concerns to Sussex police immediately online (www.sussex.police.uk) or via 101 - or in an emergency by calling 999 instead, quoting Operation Skylark.”

If you are deaf, hard of hearing or speech impaired, you can contact Sussex Police using TypeTalk on 18000 or by sending a text to 65999.
